Dog Star AI began with an observation made over two decades of working inside complex organizations: the hardest technology problems are rarely just technical. When data is wrong, late, or missing, the cause is usually tangled up in how departments hand work to one another, who owns which decisions, and how systems were configured years before anyone remembers why. Software that ignores those realities adds work instead of removing it.

Healthcare feels this more than most industries. Clinicians and practice leaders juggle patient care, staffing, payer contracts, compliance, and cash flow, while their software asks them to serve the data instead of the other way around. Dog Star AI exists to change that: to build software services, powered by governed data and responsible AI, that support excellent patient outcomes while helping clinicians run thriving practices.

Our founder

Dog Star AI was founded by Maureen Brennan, who has spent her career at the intersection of data, business processes, and the people who depend on both.

For more than 20 years, Maureen has worked on ERP system implementations and improvement projects, learning firsthand how large systems succeed or struggle once they meet real people and real workflows. For 18 of those years, her focus has been data governance: defining, monitoring, and improving the data that organizations rely on to make decisions. For the past five years, she has worked with anesthesia services data, where scheduling, billing, and payer rates come together in some of healthcare’s most demanding operations.

Much of that work has meant sitting down with people across departments to untangle data quality and process problems that no single team could solve alone. She is often brought in when a problem has proven intractable, when organizational, political, and technological obstacles are knotted together and simply buying new software hasn’t helped. Her approach is practical and collaborative: understand how the work actually happens, find where the data breaks down, and help each department get the best results from its technology.

Maureen holds a Master of Science in Data Science from Utica University and a graduate certificate in Integrated Business Processes and Systems from Central Michigan University. In 2026, she completed AI Leadership: Strategy, Governance, and Agentic Systems, a three-month intensive from the Harvard Data Science Review.

How we work

Dog Star AI is intentionally small and focused. Maureen works closely with advisors experienced in software engineering, who help ensure our products are built to be secure, reliable, and maintainable. We pair that technical rigor with deep knowledge of how healthcare practices really run.

We also believe the best healthcare software is shaped by the people who use it. That’s why we invite practices to partner with us through proofs of concept, pilot programs, and beta testing, so that what we build solves real problems from day one.

Why it matters

Many organizations are discovering that AI can only be as good as the data and processes beneath it. Dog Star AI starts there. By combining governed data, thoughtfully designed processes, and AI applied where it truly helps, we aim to give clinicians back their time and give practices clear, trustworthy information to act on.

If that resonates with you, we’d love to hear from you. Connect with us.
